Samuel was reunited with the 49ers as a replacement for the injured Pearsall, but his role will be vastly different from his first stint with the team. At age 30, he is expected to be the No. 3 receiver at best, behind Evans and Stribling, with Kirk or Robinson potentially out-targeting him. Samuel was brought in primarily as relief for injuries in the running back group rather than to fill the receiving corps void. His primary function will be stepping into spots where Christian McCaffrey was used out of necessity in 2025, allowing the elite RB to reduce wear-and-tear; he is unlikely to approach the 90-touch plateau he has averaged the last few seasons.
