Smith struggled in joint practices against Tampa Bay, completing 10-of-16 with one touchdown and two interceptions on Tuesday, then 10-of-17 with one touchdown on Wednesday. The aggressiveness touted in early camp disappeared; the vast majority of his throws came within five or six yards of the line. Both interceptions were poor throws—one telegraphed to Josiah Trotter, the other to Damarion Williams. While Smith started Wednesday's full-team period 8-of-10 with a touchdown, he failed when asked to drive the field late in the half, going incomplete-incomplete-first down-sack-first down-incomplete-incomplete-false start-incomplete in a two-minute drill.
