Rodgers sees no personal benefit to playing in preseason; ambivalent on Thursday appearance.

Rodgers expressed ambivalence about playing in the Steelers' preseason opener against his former team, stating "It's preseason. It's not real football. So if I do, great. If not, great." When directly asked if there's a benefit to him playing Thursday's game, Rodgers stated simply: "I don't think so." He criticized preseason football as not representative of regular season play, noting that teams "don't run anything anymore" and that joint practices have devolved into "fights" with no real tactical value. Rodgers views preseason primarily as an opportunity to see players "with the pads on, under the lights, how they react to the nerves," but does not see meaningful benefit to his own participation.
