Hunter was drafted in a massive trade-up with the expectation of playing both ways; the Jaguars' front office justified the move by saying they got two second overall picks in one. However, there was an April report suggesting Hunter would be mostly a cornerback with limited offensive snaps. Head coach Liam Coen later clarified the plan hadn't changed and Hunter would play both sides. Before a season-ending knee injury on Oct. 30, Hunter played 67% of offensive snaps and 36% of defensive snaps, and had just recorded his first 100-yard receiving game (101 yards vs. LA Rams in London).
