Turf Show Times on Ty Simpson

First-round rookie Simpson trails Bennett but preseason could shift backup QB competition.

Simpson, a first-round rookie, is competing for the backup QB role behind Matthew Stafford alongside Stetson Bennett. Simpson has mostly played with the reserves during camp, putting him behind Bennett in the competition; however, there have been few reports on his practice performance since camp moved from Loyola Marymount to the team facility at Woodland Hills. The preseason will be critical for Simpson's development, and if all goes according to plan he will be placed on the shelf for the regular season. A strong preseason performance, particularly on the road in Kansas City, could allow Simpson to pull ahead of Bennett in the competition.
