Black believes the 49ers offense is a great fit for him, particularly because of the emphasis on pass-catching at the running back position. Black stated: '[The offense] feels great for me. I feel like it really maximizes what a running back can truly do. A lot of the time, running backs aren't asked to catch the ball a lot out of the backfield, but here it's the complete opposite. You're going to go out there, you're going to run these different routes, and you're almost going to feel like a receiver first, sometimes.' While Black showed limited pass-catching at Indiana, he did demonstrate pass-catching ability at James Madison through his first two years, which could be key to winning the No. 2 role as the 49ers look to preserve Christian McCaffrey.
