Backup quarterback competing with Trey Lance for backup job behind Justin Herbert. Uiagalelei completed six of nine for 120 yards in preseason opener against Houston, including a 55-yard wheel route to Amar Johnson and a three-yard touchdown pass to Devonte Ross for the final touchdown. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Uiagalelei moved the offense well and was impressed with the way he dug out of holes, facing first and 19 and converting to a first down. Harbaugh praised both backup quarterbacks' ability to move the football and end drives in the end zone.
