Tyler Goodson, a former Georgia High School player of the year out of North Gwinnett, dealt the first real blow in that competition against incumbent Nathan Carter and new addition Trey Sermon. Goodson was the best runner of the night for the Falcons, and was the only player out of the eight to take at least one carry (including the quarterbacks) to generate a higher yards per attempt mark than 3.0. In fact, he averaged a full yard more per attempt than the next best Falcon (4.0).

Goodson won third RB competition with 4.0 YPA and superior vision in short-yardage situations.

In the competitive third running back depth chart battle against Nathan Carter and Trey Sermon, Goodson was the best runner for the Falcons and the only player with at least one carry to average above 3.0 yards per attempt, posting 4.0 YPA—a full yard more than the next best Falcon. Had the game-long rush of 8 yards and demonstrated superior vision and leg drive; in a third-quarter sequence at Denver's 5-yard line, Carter was stuffed for a 1-yard loss while Goodson kept his legs churning to convert what looked like a minimal gain into an impressive 5-yard run to the 1-yard line, setting up Strand's sneak touchdown.
