The third-round rookie wide receiver out of Notre Dame caught all three of his targets for 34 yards and a touchdown in the preseason game. His touchdown catch was a contested grab in the red zone where he used his 6-foot-4 frame to make a play a shorter receiver might not. Harbaugh specifically highlighted Fields' ability to make contested catches as a reason the Giants drafted him, saying "That's one of the reasons we drafted him. That's one of the things he does exceptionally well, and he's getting better at so many things." The coach praised the red zone touchdown as "a heck of a play."
