Bennett, a fourth-year pro, completed 4 of 6 passes for 38 yards in his seventh preseason start, leading a 13-play, 73-yard field-goal drive before giving way to Simpson. He had taken first-team snaps during training camp when starter Matthew Stafford was held out, positioning him as the presumptive frontrunner to back up the reigning NFL MVP. Coach Sean McVay said, "Stetson did a nice job orchestrating a nice drive on the second series."
