Yahoo Sports NFL on Connor Heyward
From the article
Fullbacks are an endangered species in the NFL, and only one from each conference makes the Pro Bowl per season... Juszczyk has earned the bid in each of the last 10 seasons while Ricard has gotten the nod six times over the last seven seasons. However, those two will have to compete with each other after the former Raven followed John Harbaugh to the New York Giants. That opens up the door for the handful of AFC fullbacks to make the Pro Bowl roster, including Heyward.
STACKED’s take
Heyward positioned to break fullback Pro Bowl duopoly with Juszczyk-like skill set.
Heyward has an opportunity to make the Pro Bowl as an AFC fullback, a position that has been dominated by San Francisco's Kyle Juszczyk (10 straight Pro Bowls) and Patrick Ricard (six times in seven seasons), who now competes in the NFC after joining the Giants. Heyward, a free-agent signing, has a similar skill set to Juszczyk with his tight end background and ability to impact the passing game in addition to being a lead blocker. With head coach Klint Kubiak mentored by 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, a big season could be incoming for Heyward. He also benefits from name recognition as the son of Craig 'Ironhead' Heyward, an 11-year NFL veteran and 1995 Pro Bowler.
