Allen's short-area role makes Downs a better target for intermediate routes in Colts.

With Michael Pittman Jr. traded away and Alec Pierce sidelined from practice, Downs competes for targets against Ashton Dulin, Laquon Treadwell, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and newly-signed Keenan Allen. Allen's aDOT continues to fall at age 34 and will operate close to the line of scrimmage, while Downs has the talent to run a full route tree. The Allen signing, which may cause some to move Downs down rankings, actually improves Downs' outlook by reducing intermediate/deep target competition.
