Allen has never exactly been a field-stretcher, so it's hard to imagine him filling the same role as Pierce. He figures to do most of his damage in the same areas as Tyler Warren and Josh Downs, so you could argue that adding him is a bit superfluous.

NeutralRole

Allen's Colts role overlaps with Downs and Warren, creating redundancy.

Allen signed a one-year, $8.32M deal with the Colts after posting 81 catches and 777 yards with the Chargers last season. At 34 years old, he's no longer the player he was in his prime, but remains a solid addition. However, the fit is awkward: Allen has never been a field-stretcher and figures to operate in the same areas as Tyler Warren and Josh Downs, making his addition somewhat superfluous to the Colts' receiver room.
