Bryant's fourth-and-two catch attempt against Sam Shields in the final moments of the 2015 NFC Divisional Playoff was initially ruled a catch at the Packers' one-yard line but overturned upon review. Under the catch rule in place at the time, officials determined Bryant had not maintained control throughout the process of going to the ground, resulting in a turnover on downs with 4:06 remaining. The reversal became so controversial that NFL owners unanimously approved a simplified catch rule in 2018 that specifically cited Bryant's overturned reception as the type of play that would be treated as a catch under the revised standard.
