Bennett took full advantage. After playing only the first two series in the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs before giving way to rookie Ty Simpson, Bennett played the entire first half Saturday against the New Orleans Saints. The fourth-year pro led four scoring drives, two that he finished with touchdown runs in a 34-0 victory at SoFi Stadium.

Bennett earned an extended opportunity in the backup quarterback battle against the Saints, playing the entire first half after limited reps (two series) in the preseason opener against Kansas City. He led four scoring drives, including two finished with touchdown runs, completing 19 of 31 passes for 181 yards. Coach Sean McVay praised Bennett's mobility and use of his legs as a weapon, noting that 'those are the things that don't necessarily come to life in some of the practice settings.' By virtue of his experience in the system and Saturday's performance, Bennett appears to have the edge to back up Matthew Stafford on a Super Bowl LXI favorite.
