Allar's preseason struggles masked by receiver drops; shows growth awareness.

Rookie third-round quarterback Drew Allar finished 11/23 for 110 yards in the second half of a preseason loss to the Jets. Allar acknowledged he needed to do a better job early in drives taking what's given, noting he passed on opportunities that resulted in incompletions or sacks and put the team in backed-up situations. Seven of his 12 incompletions were receiver drops; accounting for those drops, his statline would have been 17-of-23 for 180 yards. Despite the sloppy performance, the source notes significant growth over recent months and reasons to be excited for the Steelers' young quarterback's future as the team's developmental signal-caller.
