Despite strong preseason performances—21 of 25 for 190 yards and two touchdowns against Kansas City, then 8 of 12 for 73 yards against New Orleans—Simpson will be third on the Rams depth chart to start the season behind Matthew Stafford and Stetson Bennett IV. Reports from training camp indicated Bennett was clearly ahead, and Bennett's strong showing Saturday (19 of 31 for 181 yards, two rushing touchdowns) solidified his position as the backup.
