Going as the RB3, roughly the eighth overall pick, McCaffrey is coming off a season that led all players in total touches. Historically, that's a dangerous signal: over the last 13 years, only one running back who saw 400-plus touches in a season finished as a top-five back the next year, and running backs age 27 or older who led the league in touches have never finished top five the following season across six such occurrences.

McCaffrey's touch volume and age create historic bust risk despite RB3 price.

Going as RB3 (roughly 8th overall), McCaffrey carries significant bust risk despite leading the league in touches last season. Historical precedent is damning: over the last 13 years, only one running back with 400+ touches finished top-five the following year; running backs 27+ who led the league in touches have never finished top-five the next season across six occurrences. McCaffrey himself led the league in touches twice before, finishing outside the top-50 RBs both times. At age 30, he showed real decline last year including career-low yards per carry, and plays behind one of the oldest, most injury-prone offensive lines in the league. One the source prefers a different RB in his prime on a high-powered offense at similar price; the other acknowledges the scary precedent but remains willing to bet if he stays healthy.
