Simpson has been deadly accurate through his first two preseason games. After posting an adjusted completion rate in the 90s in Week 1, he earned a mark of 75.0% in Week 2 against the Saints. Max Klare notes that Simpson swapped places with Bennett in the PFF rankings, moving from the top five in Week 1 to third from the bottom in Week 2, though this was partly due to limited opportunities caused by Bennett's strong first-half performance and resulting game script.
