Jonathon Brooks has taken advantage of Hubbard's absence, receiving the start against Buffalo and playing four of nine snaps taken by the first-team offense with three carries for five yards and a pass reception for nine yards; Brooks scored a touchdown against Jacksonville in the second preseason game. Carolina hasn't declared Brooks the starter but planned to give both backs first-team work; Brooks' encouraging camp combined with Hubbard's hamstring injury makes a true committee backfield much more realistic than it appeared a month ago. Hubbard is now falling dangerously close to not even being in the RB3 range.
