Tagovailoa's poor performance during training camp and preseason has cost him the starting job with the Falcons. The source reports that Tagovailoa had three completions for 22 yards in the first preseason game against the Broncos, and his practice performance was similarly ineffective. Ian Rapoport noted that the Falcons' original plan was to have Tagovailoa start immediately to give Michael Penix Jr. time to recover from his ACL injury, but "Tua's play made that impossible, not just in the preseason game, which we've seen, but it sounds like practice as well." The starting job is now Penix's to lose.
