Yahoo Sports NFL on David Montgomery
From the article
Montgomery must overcome his career wear-and-tear along with an OL that's been horrific for the entirety of the C.J. Stroud era. The Texans are 31st in EPA per carry and 22nd in rush yards per game since 2023.
STACKED’s take
Montgomery's poor offensive line and Marks' competition make him a fade at ADP 52.4.
Montgomery at ADP 52.4 faces career wear-and-tear compounded by a historically poor Texans offensive line. Since 2023, Houston ranks 31st in EPA per carry and 22nd in rush yards per game. Unlike Joe Mixon (who finished RB9 in 2024 despite similar circumstances), Montgomery lacks Mixon's contract status and career pedigree. Woody Marks, a second-year back with a superior passing-down profile and improved between-the-tackles play per camp and preseason tape, poses a significant threat to Montgomery's bellcow role. Montgomery's missed tackles per touch rate improved to 18% last year from 27%, 21%, and 24% in prior three seasons, but if he's not clearly better than Marks, the backfield becomes a committee. The Texans' offensive line is starting an out-of-position rookie center and three potentially washed veterans, per Hayden Winks.
