AK-16 has had a meteoric rise up the board over the past two weeks, ascending from 17th place in the offseason rankings to claim first place heading into the final preseason game. Entering camp, the Commanders' 7th round pick was realistically battling Sam Hartman for the third-string QB role. That competition was effectively settled when Kaliakmanis' attacked the Lions' defense with surgical precision on Saturday, completing 11/14 (78.6%) for 162 yards at an ADOT of 9.4 yds for a 114.9 passer rating.

Kaliakmanis rises to first in preseason rankings; could be Daniels' primary backup.

The source says Kaliakmanis has had a meteoric rise from 17th place in offseason rankings to first place heading into the final preseason game. Entering camp, the 7th round pick was realistically battling Sam Hartman for the third-string QB role. Against the Lions, he completed 11/14 (78.6%) for 162 yards at an ADOT of 9.4 yards for a 114.9 passer rating, looking clearly superior to Hartman (81.8% completion on shorter targets, ADOT 5.4 yards). With Hartman in the rearview mirror and Marcus Mariota nursing an MCL sprain, Kaliakmanis could become Jayden Daniels' primary backup on opening day.
