Williams got off to a hot start in the joint practice against Tennessee, completing six straight passes and finishing 9 of 11 overall in the first half, with incompletions attributed to a throwaway and a drop; he spread the ball to eight different receivers. In red-zone work, Williams threw two touchdown passes in one period—an out to rookie WR Zavion Thomas and a play-action shot to Cole Kmet—demonstrating command and accuracy in high-leverage situations. Ben Arthur noted Williams hit Rome Odunze in stride off an RPO, stepped up and found Kmet on a shuffle pass, and ripped a dart into a tight window outside the numbers.
