Herbert showed that his regular season should be just fine when he found Quentin Johnston for a 65-yard TD strike in the preseason matchup. Though he bobbled his second snap early, leading to a Rams field goal, Herbert's touchdown pass demonstrated readiness for Week 1. Jim Harbaugh and Mike McDaniel saw enough from Herbert and pulled him after one fumble, one touchdown day.
