The Panthers used a first round pick (13th overall) on Stewart despite having used a first round pick on current starter DeAngelo Williams just two years prior. In Stewart's second season, Williams missed a couple games due to injury, and that allowed both to top 1,100 rushing yards for the season.

NeutralRole

Williams' injury absence in 2007 enabled historic dual 1,100-yard rushing seasons.

Williams was drafted 13th overall by the Panthers in 2004 as a first-round pick. He formed the 'Double Trouble' duo with Jonathan Stewart, drafted two years later. In Stewart's second season (2007), when Williams missed a couple games due to injury, both players topped 1,100 rushing yards—the only time this has occurred in NFL history. Williams was eventually let go by Dave Gettleman in what is described as one of many high-animosity moves, which finally gave Stewart the backfield mostly to himself.
