The San Francisco 49ers have made a decision on their No. 3 quarterback, as they are releasing quarterback Adrian Martinez, paving the way for 2025 seventh-round pick Kurtis Rourke to make the 53-man roster as the team's third quarterback. Martinez, 26, had thrown for 346 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions during the preseason, seeing action in all three games.

Adrian Martinez released by 49ers; lost QB3 role to Kurtis Rourke.

Released by the 49ers after competing for the No. 3 QB role; threw for 346 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INT across all three preseason games but lost the roster battle to seventh-round pick Kurtis Rourke, who had a stronger preseason outing (12 of 14, 101 yards). Martinez had been on the practice squad in 2025 and signed to a futures contract in January, but the team's preference for Rourke's upside and recovery from a torn ACL made him expendable. He may return to the practice squad after cutdowns.
