Green, a sixth-round pick, is a gifted but flawed project at nearly 6-foot-6, 225 pounds with outstanding athleticism and arm talent, but his inconsistent college tape dropped him in the draft. He was the third QB for at least the first four games while Gabriel is on IR. Green received limited opportunities during the preseason, including joint practices against Buffalo and clean-up duty against New England, where he reportedly comported himself well—encouraging enough that the Browns felt uneasy about trying to sneak him through waivers. Head coach Todd Monken praised Green's intelligence and work ethic ('That dude is smart as heck... All he does is work, [with a] smile on his face'), but Green almost never received team-period snaps while Watson and Sanders battled. His running ability could provide a path to playing time in a worst-case scenario. If the Browns roster him all season, he could stick as the second or third QB next season.
