Last year Washington was under center just 13.1 percent of the time, and that dropped to 5.8 percent when Daniels was on the field.

Daniels is transitioning from Kliff Kingsbury's no-huddle, shotgun-heavy offense to Dan Quinn's system that will require more huddling and under-center work. Last season Daniels huddled only 32 percent of the time (20 percent excluding first plays), compared to the NFL median of 82 percent, and was under center just 5.8 percent of the time versus the league average. Quinn estimates Daniels will have four or five rushing attempts off scrambles alone each game, with designed runs potentially adding to that total. Daniels' scramble rate sits at 13.8 percent, well above the league average of 5.5 percent. The increased under-center usage is designed to help the play-action game and make defenses respect the run more honestly, which should help both Daniels as a passer and the run game explosiveness.
