Slayton underwent double-sports hernia surgery during the offseason and missed all spring practices, limiting his preparation time. He had a relatively quiet summer with the exception of a four-catch, 58-yard performance in Week 2 of the preseason against Miami. Slayton acknowledged he is still working his way back to full speed, stating "I feel pretty good. I wouldn't say 100 yet, but definitely turning in the right direction."
