STACKED’s take
Montgomery's lead-back role in Houston's less-crowded backfield unlocks TD upside.
Montgomery's role shrank in Detroit's final four weeks as Jahmyr Gibbs took over, finishing 2025 as RB27 with 9.1 half-PPR points per game. However, he has remained one of the NFL's most reliable touchdown producers, scoring at least eight touchdowns in each of the past three seasons. Houston acquired Montgomery on a two-year, $16.5 million contract specifically to address running game issues, and he is expected to operate as the lead back with Woody Marks as the pass-catching specialist. The Texans' backfield is much less crowded than Detroit's, and Houston has emphasized building around the running game to take pressure off C.J. Stroud. If Montgomery receives 200+ carries and goal-line work, his touchdown upside alone gives him a chance to substantially outperform his 2025 finish.
