the Dallas Cowboys are not done adding to it. The team announced late on Thursday that they have signed veteran tight end James Mitchell to their practice squad. Mitchell is a good veteran option to have with NFL experience, and the ability to impact the game as a receiver and blocker if one of the top three tight ends miss time.

Cowboys add veteran TE Mitchell to practice squad for depth and emergency coverage.

Signed to Dallas Cowboys practice squad as a veteran tight end depth option; has 16 receptions for 169 yards and 1 TD across 35 NFL games (1 start) mostly with Detroit Lions; viewed as a mid-round tight end prospect in 2022 draft cycle; can impact game as receiver and blocker if top three Cowboys tight ends miss time; not expected to make significant impact in 2026 unless injuries occur, but provides NFL-ready emergency depth and potential 2027 development opportunity.
