My question is, is Kevin O'Connell the kingmaker?...I went to bring up the Viking stats, macro stats, with KOC at the switches. And I'll be honest, I thought they were going to be a little bit better. Very much middle pack...his last full season, he had 572 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns...the Vikings waited to draft a running back until the sixth round this year, despite having old man Aaron Jones...So I think that Kyler should be drafted over Bo Nix personally...you can make an argument that you should also be taking home over Matt Stafford.
STACKED’s take
Positive signalProjection
Rushing upside over Bo Nix, but Vikings' middle-pack offense limits ceiling.
Kyler Murray should be drafted over Bo Nix and Matt Stafford. His last full season he had 572 rushing yards and 5 rushing TDs (not his career high of 800 yards and 11 TDs in 2020). The Vikings waited until round 6 to draft a running back despite having aging Aaron Jones and underwhelming Jordan Mason, suggesting they may be relying on Murray's rushing upside to compensate for backfield deficiencies. The source questions whether Kevin O'Connell is a kingmaker; Vikings macro stats with O'Connell at the helm are very middle-pack—not bad, but nothing top-five in success rate, EPA, or yards per play. However, if Murray wins the job definitively, his ADP will climb.
