If the reason for sitting Mendoza is so that he doesn't get thrown into the fire before he's ready and ruin his confidence, then it would make more sense for AOC to be the backup because he'd be the one to go in the game if Cousins gets injured rather than the rookie getting thrown into a chaotic situation.
