Smith signed as hybrid tight end-fullback; will push Whyle when Musgrave returns.

Signed on cutdown deadline day; head coach Matt LaFleur coached Smith when LaFleur was offensive coordinator with Tennessee Titans. Smith is an off-ball tight end who at times carries the ball, not an all-around tight end threat when his hand is in the dirt. He's here to play a hybrid tight end-fullback role, getting the ball in his hands and contributing as a yards-after-catch threat in obvious passing situations. When Luke Musgrave returns from PUP list after neck injury, Smith should push Josh Whyle out of his role; the team will likely release Whyle hoping to land him on practice squad.
