Adams had pushed his way to the Jets by literally quitting on his previous team the Raiders. He arrived in New York and was immediately jarred by the Jets' lack of urgency to the point he gave an impassioned locker room speech to try and motivate his teammates.

Adams arrived in New York and was immediately jarred by the Jets' lack of urgency to the point he gave an impassioned locker room speech to try and motivate his teammates. This was particularly striking given that Adams had quit on his previous team (the Raiders) to force the trade to the Jets, yet found the Jets' organizational dysfunction even more concerning.
