STACKED’s take
Pitts' TE2 finish was inflated by injuries elsewhere; QB uncertainty and London's presence make Week 1 risky.
Despite finishing as TE2 in total fantasy points last season and facing a Steelers defense that allowed the fourth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points to tight ends, Pitts is a risky Week 1 start. Uncertainty surrounds the Falcons' quarterback situation with Tua Tagovailoa starting but Michael Penix Jr. preferred long-term; Tagovailoa was dreadful in preseason. More critically, Pitts' production is heavily dependent on Drake London's absence: with London playing, Pitts averaged 9.63 fantasy points, 4.42 receptions and 0.17 touchdowns per game; without London, he averaged 19.04 points, 7.0 receptions and 0.6 touchdowns (inflated by an 11-catch, 166-yard, 3-TD game vs. Tampa Bay). Last season's TE2 finish was aided by injuries to Brock Bowers, Tucker Kraft and Sam LaPorta.
