Mendoza's path to starting depends on Cousins' performance and Raiders' early record.

Mendoza is the No. 1 overall pick and will eventually supplant Kirk Cousins as the Raiders' starter. It's safe to assume Mendoza will see the field before long, though Cousins could delay the passing of the torch by producing quickly. The Cousins-Mendoza chatter will be a talking point every week until the switch happens, especially if the team is losing games. If the Raiders are 1-3 or worse after the opening month, the question becomes whether head coach Klint Kubiak will want a look at the future of the franchise sooner.
