STACKED’s take
Rice's elite PPR average undercut by Mahomes' injury recovery and Broncos' elite WR defense.
Rice is outstanding in PPR scoring, averaging 18.8 fantasy points per game last season, but faces significant headwinds in Week 1 against Denver. Patrick Mahomes is playing for the first time since late last year after sitting out all preseason recovering from a torn ACL. The Chiefs will likely be without starting left tackle Josh Simmons due to a back injury. The Broncos have arguably the best defense in the NFL, holding wide receivers to 27 fantasy points per game (eighth-fewest in the league). Rice struggled in his long matchup against Denver in 2025, recording six receptions on nine targets for 38 receiving yards and 9.8 fantasy points—one of only two games where he failed to score double-digit fantasy points.
