STACKED’s take
McDaniel's motion scheme and Cardinals' soft slot coverage set McConkey up for immediate Week 1 success.
McConkey gets a significant offensive coordinator change with Mike McDaniel, who is expected to use him similarly to how the Dolphins used Tyreek Hill. McDaniel's scheme emphasizes motion to help receivers get free releases; Miami offenses had receivers moving at the snap on 15% of routes compared with 9% under former OC Greg Roman. McConkey faced press on 59% of his routes last season, but the Cardinals pressed slot receivers on only 44% of their routes last season versus 52% league-wide, giving him a better chance to release into his route without contact. The source expects more play-action, which creates big-play opportunities on in-breaking routes with YAC potential behind linebackers and in front of the secondary.
