Dolphins fifth-round rookie wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. switched from jersey number 83 (formerly worn by Dolphins great Mark Clayton) to number 21 during the preseason-to-regular-season transition. The change was motivated by personal significance: Coleman's brother Rashaad, 18 months old, was killed by gunfire on October 21st, 2008, in a St. Louis suburb.
