Rush is starting Week 1 for the Falcons due to Tua Tagovailoa's back injury and Michael Penix Jr.'s knee concerns. During preseason, Rush ran the offense more competently than Tagovailoa despite joining the roster only 15 days before his first game against Denver. He has shown command and the ability to keep Tommy Rees' offense on schedule, demonstrating his ability to pick up the playbook quickly. Physically and in skill set, Rush and Tagovailoa are indistinguishable this summer; neither is known for arm strength, and making plays out of the pocket is unreliable for both. Rush showed a slight willingness to push the ball downfield (ADoT of 6.3 vs. Tagovailoa's 3.3), though Tagovailoa has an edge in processing ability. The game plan will not change significantly with Rush under center; he is expected to manage the game and hand off to Robinson rather than win with his arm.
