Stafford had one of his worst games in his LA tenure, looking old and immobile; he held the ball longer, invited pressure, and passed up what the defense was giving him. On throws 20+ yards downfield he went 0/3 with an interception; 10-19 yards he was 3/7 (42.9%) for 74 yards; 0-9 yards he was 10/12 (83.3%) for 63 yards with no turnover-worthy plays. Drake Maye notes that defenses this season require opposing quarterbacks to be patient and take underneath throws, requiring discipline and commitment for 60 minutes—neither Stafford nor Maye showed they could sustain that plan through one game. Stafford's tool to minimize pressure is his mind and getting rid of the ball quickly, but he over-aggressed instead. The question is whether he can course correct and return to the McVay system's preference for explosive plays downfield.
