In year four, debate continues between Young and Texans QB C.J. Stroud after both were taken with first two picks in 2023 NFL Draft; Young steadily improved in 2024 and 2025, getting to the point where he seemed almost capable of outdueling Matthew Stafford in the Rams' wildcard matchup in January; however, despite improvement rooted in avoiding sacks, his explosive play rate stayed roughly the same from 2024 to 2025, and his highlight-worthy throw rate remained near the bottom of the league—he's avoiding bad plays by avoiding risk altogether.
