The Patriots signed Doubs to a four-year, $80 million contract this offseason after cutting Stefon Diggs. Doubs had a horrible debut in the league's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. A.J. Brown, who the Patriots traded for in June, suffered an injury in the second half. Doubs did not step up as needed after Brown went down. Doubs did not have a catch on three targets and had a game-swinging drop on what would have been an explosive play in the fourth quarter of a tie game. Brown is on injured reserve now and will miss at least the next four games. The Patriots need far more out of Doubs. They used him more as a vertical, down-the-field player, but Doubs really thrives more on possession routes. New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will need to find a way to get Doubs more involved.
