It's easy to be excited after a great showing in Week 1 out of David Montgomery, but you also don't want to chase touchdowns either to the tune of putting someone in the top 40 overall. The Texans are not built to be a shootout team, as they showed in Week 1, and coming off a loss will help make their mind up even more to get back to their true identity of defense first.

Montgomery's top-40 ranking unsustainable as Texans prioritize defense-first identity.

Montgomery had a great Week 1 showing but chasing touchdowns to the tune of a top-40 ranking is risky. The Texans are not built to be a shootout team and will prioritize their defense-first identity after a Week 1 loss. Houston will muddy the game and make it a lower-scoring affair, which limits Montgomery's end zone chances. Even if Cincinnati's offense shines, a game of catch-up for the Texans does not include Montgomery in the script as much as it would someone like Woody Marks.
