VanSumeren elevated to 53-man roster as four-phase fullback; Toub expects increased role in Week 2.

Fullback signed to active roster after practice-squad elevation; played 79% of special teams snaps in Week 1 and saw three offensive snaps. Special teams coordinator Dave Toub confirmed VanSumeren will be a four-phase player going forward, with head coach Andy Reid excited about having a fullback again. VanSumeren, a 6'2", 231-pound former linebacker prospect from Michigan State (4.45-second 40-yard dash, 9.62 RAS), was converted to fullback last offseason before suffering a season-ending knee injury on the opening kickoff. Toub noted his linebacker history in a fullback body and speed (4.4-second range) make him valuable on special teams and in the run game; he will need to learn terminology but is expected to ramp up quickly with reps.
