Black took most of the team's snaps at running back during the 49ers' 27-7 Week 1 victory against the Rams, carrying the ball 14 times for 65 yards and three first downs in his NFL debut. Shanahan explained the workload distribution was partly situational—the 49ers started with three runs in the first 17 plays and built a 24-7 lead late in the fourth quarter—but also praised Black's preparation: 'Love that Kaelon was prepared for everything. The run game and the pass game and allowed us to be able to do that.' Shanahan also stated, 'I love taking some off Christian,' suggesting Black will continue to see significant snaps alongside Christian McCaffrey.
