Black's 65 rushing yards, 4.8 YPC in Week 1 debut signals emerging role.

Black emerged as a sleeper win for San Francisco in Week 1, averaging 4.8 yards per carry on 14 attempts for 65 rushing yards and proving capable in both the run and pass game. Head coach Kyle Shanahan praised his preparedness, stating "love the fact that Kaelon was prepared for everything, the run game and the pass game, and allowed us to be able to do that." Shanahan noted he was "a little surprised" Black received more carries than McCaffrey (14 vs. 10), and emphasized that the better Black performs, the more he will be trusted on the field, which in turn allows McCaffrey to preserve his body.
