From the article
Michael Penix Jr. will start for Atlanta against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football... STACKED’s take
Penix starts Week 3 vs. Packers; fully healthy and poised to upgrade Falcons offense.
Michael Penix Jr. will start for Atlanta against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football in Week 3, marking his debut in the starting role under the new Stefanski/Cunningham/Matt Ryan regime. Drafted eighth overall to eventually replace Kirk Cousins, Penix wound up starting earlier than intended when Cousins struggled in 2024. Now fully recovered from his ACL injury and cleared to play, Penix has appeared in 14 games (12 starts) with 2,757 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 59.1% completion. The source notes he can credibly throw the ball deep and is a much more poised and polished passer than backup Cooper Rush, which should open up an offense that scored only 16 points in two games. Penix is the only quarterback on the roster that could credibly be Atlanta's long-term starter, and his audition for that role begins Thursday night.
